 There are many factors to consider when developing an internet marketing strategy for your business:

Imagine a company with a brand new product launch coming in 4 weeks.  Research indicates that the product being offered is an item that is often searched for in the geographic target of the company. == In this case we would recommend the commencement on an immediate Pay-per-click campaign targeting searchers to a specifically designed page of your website that promotes the product.  We would also encourage a Search Engine Optimization review of the site, and standard directory submissions, but the pay-per-click campaign would be the first priority as this campaign would take affect immediately, where as search engine optimization efforts can take anywhere from 1 to 6 months to become fully effective.

2. Imagine a well established company planning a product launch in 1 year.  In this case the immediate focus would be a search engine optimization review of the clients website, implementing recommendations, and perhaps an SEMM (Search Engine Marketing Management review of the clients site to ensure pages meet the relevance test for searchers).  A Search Engine Marketing launch would be set for 3 to 6 months preceding the product launch.

3. Imagine a company facing bankruptcy, and the ability to bounce back with a new business plan is dependent on being able to liquidate a large amount of remaining stock (The company must sell everything within 3 weeks).  We would work with company to develop a close out sale proposal, and would develop a Broad SEM campaign across all major search engine to draw customers to the close out sale.  In this case Search Optimization efforts would not be a wise expenditure, as the company would no longer be in existence by the time that the SEO efforts took affect.
